Dr. David Nkedianye, Governor, Kajiado County has pledged support for higher education in Kajiado County. The Governor was speaking at the University of Nairobi, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences during the 1st student- led conference held from 29th-30th May 2013. Dr. Nkedianye who formerly worked as the deputy director in charge of outreach at the Centre for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies (CSDES) laid emphasis on the critical role of higher education if the counties and the country at large will have to take off.

The Governor noted that the new political dispensation has raised the expectations of Kenyans where citizens expect to have universities in their counties. He pointed out that one of the greatest challenges facing many counties is lack of expertise with good work ethics.

“There is need to bring expertise with good work ethics, the right attitude and effort into place. Young people and students need to come on board so as to achieve the right result”. Dr. Nkedienye said.

Dr. Nkedianye said that his government will set aside land for universities to set up constituent colleges to increase access to higher education in the county. He also noted that his government will set aside funds to support scholarships for higher education and encourage research.
