The University of Nairobi (UoN) through the Centre for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies (CSDES) is scheduled to host the Norman E. Borlaug (LEAP) conference on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS). The event is expected to bring together more than 100 participants with a majority being beneficiaries of the Borlaug (LEAP) fellowships. Other stakeholders also expected to attend the conference include; scientists, policymakers, former Borlaug LEAP Fellows, Mentors, and USAID representatives.

The Norman E. Borlaug Leadership Enhancement in Agriculture (LEAP) is a program of the US Government’s Feed the Future Borlaug 21st Century Leadership Initiative funded by the US Agency for International Development.  The program offers fellowships to enhance the quality of thesis research of graduate students from developing countries who show strong promise as leaders in the field of agriculture and related disciplines

The awards are made on a competitive basis to students who show strong scientific and leadership potential, have a well-coordinated proposal between their home university, a US university mentor, and the CGIAR mentor, and whose research has relevance to the national development of the student’s home country or region.

The conference will comprise two sessions where session one will be a roundtable discussion with working group and session two will be a reception and keynote presentations.
