The 64th conferment of Degrees and award of Diplomas

In keeping with tradition; the University of Nairobi held the 64th graduation ceremony on Friday, December 11, 2020. The ceremony was conducted virtually and broadcast on national television and social media to allow all graduands to follow the virtual event. During the December graduation 2 honorary Degrees were awarded; Prof. Julia Ojiambo received Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) in Leadership and  Prof. Micere Mugo received a Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) in Literature and about 5,709 graduands were conferred degrees and awarded diplomas.

Celebrating the milestones of the Department of Agricultural Economics

As the University of Nairobi celebrates its 50 years of academic excellence, the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS) recognizes the exceptional contribution of Prof. Willis Oluoch-Kosura from the Department of Agricultural Economics. During the last four decades of distinguished service to the University, Willis has formed many collaborative partnerships for capacity building and resource mobilization, and continues to play an important professional role in mentoring many young staff in the networks developed over time.

Capacity Development in Agriculture for attainment of Food security, SDGs and Vision 2030 for Kenya Webinar

The linkage between the University and the alumni is critical in forging strong partnership and collaboration for quality capacity development. There has been a weak linkage between the learning institution and their alumni, which has impacted on efforts to strengthen partnership and development of initiatives that address the current needs.

Tree Planting at Vet Farm- Kanyariri

The College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences led by the Principal Prof. Rose Nyikal  held tree planting exercise at Kanyariri Vet farm on 20th November, 2020. The University of Nairobi office of Career Services, Green Belt Movement, Acorn Holdings (Qwetu Residences), Workmate (Virtual Jobs Finder), Hultz Prize UoN Campus, KEFRI, Dedan Kimathi Fondation and  UoN staff and students were among the stakeholders who graced the event.

The College held its fourth webinar on 4th November, 2020  as University of Nairobi celebrates 50 years of academic excellence. The main Speaker was Prof. Stephen Kiama, the Vice-Chancellor and three other panelists; Ms. Marion Kamau - Chair of the Board, the Green Belt Movement – Kenya, Prof. R. G.

Tree Planting exercise

The Principal CAVS, Prof. R. Nyikal, Director WMI, Prof. D. Mungai, Dean of Students/Director Career Services, Mr. Johnson Kinyua, Mr. John M. Mwangi, CEO, Workmate Green Solutions and Mr. Simon Nderitu, Sequence Entertainment, University of Nairobi. The team met at the Wangari Maathai Institute to plan for the tree planting exercise to be held on 20th  November, 2020 at the Wangari Mathai Institute and at the Vet Farm in Kanyariri. The exercise will involve staff and students from the University of Nairobi and Loresho Primary School.

UoN @ 50 Webinar: Antimicrobial resistance; One health threat.

As part of UON@50 celebrations, The College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences held its 3rd webinar on 28th October 2020, at 2.00PM. The guest speaker Prof.Sam Kariuki Director Centre for Microbiology Research KEMRI, Kenya, delivered a key address on "Antimicrobial resistance: One health threat." He explained on One health approach in Antimicrobial resistance as it is an increasingly serious global public threat.
