ADIS is a collaborative institution that encourages partnership in service delivery, project implementation, innovative research, knowledge management and business engagement with various stakeholders across the local and international platforms to achieve sustainable development of drylands in Kenya.

ADIS is as a specialized institute for drylands within the University of Nairobi. It employs a multi- disciplinary and trans-disciplinary approach in addressing complex dryland challenges in Kenya by drawing technical expertise from various academic departments within the University to deliver its mandate.  ADIS also leverages expertise from the private sector, which complements and adds synergy that strengthens impact of its services.

Some of the partners and collaborators include;  

ADIS also engages with local communities through Community Based organizations and local NGOs in Service delivery within the areas of operations.  The Institute is striving to identify challenges facing communities that will inform decision making through action research and innovations to get practical solutions, which has been done in Narok, Laikipia, Isiolo, Garisa, Turkana, Mandera, Taita-Taveta and Kajiado among others. Such local organizations include; Christian Impact Missions CIM (Yatta, Machakos) and Pastoralist Community Initiative Development and Assistance PACIDA (Marsabit).

The Institute has benefited from strong business relations which continue to strengthen the Institute capacity and build trust for the government and private sector.
