The Centre for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies (CSDES) held a very successful seminar on 13th July 2012 aimed at discussing the viability of adopting REDD+ as a conservation measure in the country. REDD+ stands for Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in developing countries. The Seminar was held in the Seminar room at the Department of Clinical Studies, College of Agriculture, University of Nairobi.

In an effort to fulfill its fourth objective (community outreach and engagement), the Centre for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies’ (CSDES) Coordinator, Prof. J.T Njoka together with his communication team recently embarked on a community outreach program in Loita Division, Narok County where CSDES and Loita Cultural and Resource Centre agreed to work together to develop management approaches for dryland systems.

The Centre for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies (CSDES) held a successful two day Geo-Information Systems (GIS) training workshop at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS), Department of Land Resource management & Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) from 19th to 20th June 2012.

The University of Nairobi (UoN), through the Center for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies (CSDES) in collaboration with Kenyatta University (KU) and other partners held a successful event on 10th February 2012 at the Kenya Institute of Education that was aimed at introducing accomplishments and Visions of Africa-US higher education partnerships in the two Universities.
