The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is proud of its four ladies graduands who will be awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) of the University of Nairobi at the 64th graduation ceremony on Friday December 11, 2020. The graduation ceremony will be held at a time when the University is celebrating 50 years of existence since it was formed after the dissolution of the University of East Africa in 1970. The graduands, are Dr. Peter Shepelo Getrude, Dr. Mary Nyambura Gichunge, Dr. Stella Kiambi and Dr. Sirma Anima Jematia Kigen. The faculty cerebrates these graduands.
The specific areas of their PhD studies and thesis titles are:
- Dr. Peter, Shepelo Getrude - PhD in Veterinary Clinical Studies (Medicine). Thesis title: “Epidemiology and Molecular Characterization of Anaplasma and Ehrlichia Species Infecting Dairy Cattle in Smallholder Farms in Peri-urban Nairobi, Kenya”.
- Dr. Stella Kiambi - PhD in Veterinary Public Health. Thesis title: Value chain mapping to assess governance challenges, food safety risks and Escherichia coli genetic diversity along along the dairy food chain in Nairobi, Kenya.
- Dr. Mary Nyambura Gichunge - PhD in Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics. Thesis title: Factors associated with income in working donkeys among smallholder farmers in Kirinyaga County, Kenya.
- Dr. Sirma Anima Jematia Kigen - PhD in Veterinary Public Health. Thesis title: Assessment of risk to human health associated with aflatoxins in the Kenya dairy value chain.
