EXTENSION AND FIELD STAFF TRAINING ON AGRONOMY AND AGROFORESTRY

Prof. Geoffrey Kironchi and Sicily Muchira all of University of Nairobi (UoN) and Mr. Kenneth Tembe and Mr. Godfry Anyika (IGAD Sheikh Technical Veterinary School (ISTVS) in Somaliland team conducted training for Extension and Field Staff on Agronomy and Agroforestry at ISTVS in Somaliland. It is supported by World Vision through the DFAT funded Australian NGO cooperation Program (ANCP) project. The trainings comprised of Good Agricultural Practices for sustainable dryland farming.

TRAINING ON UTILIZATION OF PROSOPIS JULIFLORA AS ANIMAL FEED AND CHARCOAL BRIQUETTES IN MANDERA COUNTY, KENYA

Dr. Oscar K. Koech from the University of Nairobi (UoN) Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT)  conducted community training and extension on sustainable management of Prosopis juliflora to reduce invasion. Dr. Koech trained the communities on technologies for Prosopis seed pod use as animal feed, through processing of feed meal and feed block for conservation. The community was also trained on effective ways to process and conserve crop residues as feed.

FIELD SUPERVISION ON EFFECT OF DEFICIT IRRIGATION ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF MAIZE

Dr. G. Karuku conducted  field extension services in Kiboko Research Station, Makeuni County. The field visit was wonderful with several activities to be accomplished: like Land preparation and leveling, Installation irrigation system and testing its workability, Measurement of initial moisture status and planting.
